Michael Joseph Brown reveals new ways to read and study the Bible in his book titled "What They Don't Tell You : a survivor's guide. in biblical studies. Although quite technical, the guide, not the book, really delves into the process of studying the Bible and its documents. Brown has a new and refreshing way of giving the reader that information that is needed in a small group or for a Bible scholar. This guide is not just for the biblical scholar and talks in detail about the difference between these two, as some may relate them. Published by Westminster John Knox Press, WJK for short, this book provides simple answers on how to best understand the biblical text in depth. As you read on, you'll learn more about their differences and why they seem so similar from an outside perspective. Brown has taken a wide variety of information and made it into something interesting and extremely useful to the reader. In his own words: “What I have done is “translate” some fundamental concepts of biblical studies into language that more people can understand. » (xiii) Brown does a fantastic job of arranging the chapters in an order in which readers can take the lead. accumulated knowledge and apply it to the next step they reach by working on the survival guide. The introduction really gives the reader a great start as they dive into the heart of WHAT THEY'RE NOT TELLING YOU. This brief description introduces readers to the premise behind the entire book in terms of the focus of each chapter. Brown probably says it best when he writes that the introduction is "all that needs to be said" before he can communicate what he actually wants to get across. I was challenged to deepen my faith through questions and further reading, so that I could fully understand what God was doing in the lives of the people described in the Bible. I highly recommend this book to a reader who wants to refine their faith in a way that is personal to them. Brown is a wise man who turned something quite erudite into something a normal human being could understand. He left out all the fancy literary words usually found in Bible studies. I really appreciated his dedication to the general public learning Bible study at a basic level. After thoroughly reading Brown's guide, I feel like I now have a diving board that I can use to dive deep into the biblical texts.
