    Today, there are many controversies on the topic of college athlete compensation. Some believe a payment would further complicate the problem, but others say it would end all problems. College athletes should receive some form of compensation for their participation in college sports due to the hardship they endure, the inability of scholarships to cover all expenses, the exploitation of college athletes by colleges and universities for whom they play, of a disparity between coaches and players. A recent report indicates that playing for a major basketball or football program takes the same amount of time as a full-time job (Sports Illustrated 2011). The most influential college athletes have a full-time responsibility for the sport they play. They have an agreement with their “bosses” (coaches) and their team in the form of scholarships. They are paid with a college education and most of the expenses that come with it. The main goal of some athletes is not to be educated, but to play a sport (Griffin 75). A study conducted by the NCAA found that players who played for top-ranked schools in the Football Bowl Subdivision (FBS) spent nearly 43.3 hours per week on football-related activities. It also found that Division I men's basketball players spent approximately 39 hours per week playing basketball (Sports Illustrated 2011).
