However, many young girls are forced into a much more difficult motherhood because they acquire this responsibility while still in high school. Being a mother enrolled in a public school can be quite stressful. As a result, a multitude of reasons, ranging from lack of child care to discrimination, cause approximately 60% of student mothers to drop out of high school before earning a high school diploma. This is extremely problematic because teenage mothers are already at a disadvantage in achieving their own life goals, and dropping out of school statistically shows that the child will also be at a disadvantage educationally.
