    In the traditional juvenile justice system, adults represent the offender in court and adults decide the sentence. Whereas in youth court, young offenders have a real jury of their peers who operate under guidelines set by adults while being allowed to play a central role in the juvenile justice system. Roles such as prosecutor, defender, clerk, jury foreman and sometimes even peer judges who, together with the peer jury, decide on an appropriate sentence which can range from letters of apology, hours of community service , educational/skills building courses, or even serving a sentence. on a Teen Court jury which allows offenders to be part of the Teen Court process. Another big difference between Teen Court and the regular juvenile justice system is that where the standard juvenile justice system focuses on punishment, Teen Court focuses primarily on rehabilitating young people and is designed to educate the young offender on the impact of his crime on. the community to help them in their transformation to become a more socially responsible actor
