Essay / Father-Son Relationship in Winter Sundays Poem
My Father's Waltz has an ABAB rhyme scheme, which simply means that all other lines must rhyme. The lines “could make a little boy dizzy” (2) are B in iambic trimeter, the next B that rhymes with this line is “such a waltz was not easy” (4). These winter Sundays are described like a sonnet. A sonnet has fourteen lines. This poem does not rhyme at all and it is not written in regular iambic pentameter. “These Winter Sundays” is a poem about love, sonnets are generally known to talk about love. “Winter Sundays” is a poem that sets an example for children in our current generation who may not like their parents or family. Hayden's poem is a common situation that anyone can experience. The lesson is that you should appreciate your parents and loved ones before they leave and you are left with a feeling of guilt. This guilt can and will weigh heavily on you because your father or mother was always there and sacrificed everything for your life.
