In today's business environment, the position of CEO is one of the most critical roles within any organization. While a few CEOs have led their companies to success, others have taken their companies to the brink of bankruptcy. Therefore, who can become a CEO is a big question that is not easy to answer both for the candidates and for the human director, who is the person authorized to select? One of the dilemmas facing any organization is whether to choose someone with the qualities but not old enough to become CEO. This dilemma is at the center of Jeffreyf Pfeffer's case study, "Can the Nice Guys Finish First?" ยป (2011). In this "Can Nice Guy Finish First" case study, Pfeffer focuses on the main character Adam, who highly desires to become CEO of the last venture hotel chains. However, he was heavily rejected by his boss, Merwyn, who claims that despite his excellent potential, such as intelligent, loyal and present, Adam is not only quite old, but also lacks leadership experience. These essential factors to become a CEO. Furthermore, the author points out that although Adam was not convinced by the boss's decision, he was so confused and felt several shortcomings himself. Unlike Adam who thinks about himself, Kaleeb's wife Sarah insists that Adam has great qualities to become a CEO. On the other hand, according to the author, he states that she was angered by Merwyn's decision. So she advises Adam to put pressure on his boss again to take the CEO position. As a result, Adam decided to return to discuss a hotel deal with his manager. Still, nothing could convince Merwyn to change her mind. The main characters must now decide his future. In other words, he needs to decide whether to ask Merwyn to make him CEO ... middle of paper ... I am convinced by Goldsmith's argument. He makes a number of good points, such as pointing out the three obstacles Adam faces as well as the leadership qualities of passions, skills and support from the boss, C.Kesler makes me a firm believer in power staff. This knowledge could be essential and indispensable to Adam as CEO. More importantly, having learned the lesson from the famous CEO. For example, Steve Job, co-founder, chairman and CEO of Apple Inc, despite many failures, never gave up. As a result, Apple Inc is very successful these days. Through this, I would advise Adam to believe in a truth that he can do this. Alternatively, he should be patient and continue working at his current position to show his talent in order to convince his boss. If Merwyn can't change her view of Adam, he should find somewhere else to seek new experiences..
