  • Essay / Evolution of Computer Technology and Operating Systems

The personal computer has undergone drastic changes with the introduction of advanced computer software and hardware. The evolution of computers did not develop on its own; Influential figures such as Steve Jobs and Bill Gates led the technological revolution. These well-known individuals competed with each other by continually innovating and creating more and more advanced technology. Computer technology advanced when Intel created 64-bit technology and advanced cores to complement the upgrade in processing power. Not only is the evolution of computer technology itself relevant to modern studies, but the adoption of computers for use in other fields of study, such as engineering and architecture, has been caused by this revolution. The evolution of a simple concept has expanded the scope of the personal computer due to competition between companies in an attempt to control the market. By battling against each other to determine which company was better, computer companies changed the way society interacted with each other and integrated the personal computer into other forms of study such as science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM); this was made possible through the development of computer hardware and software. The personal computer's greatest contribution to innovation was not changed by a single person, but was the product of competitors in the technological world. The most famous battle between companies over technological innovation would be that of Apple versus Microsoft. Since the development of the first personal computer, Apple and Microsoft have fought for dominance in the computer market.
