Essay / My interest in the accounting and finance course
Starting my bachelor's degree in economics by learning about things such as the power of money and how government attempts to control people's actions through through tax changes suddenly piqued my interest. regarding the world of finance. It was not only a completely new science for me, but also a completely new language. The reason why the Accounting and Finance course appeals to me so much is due to the large number of perspectives available to graduates, as well as the opportunity to study for a year abroad at a few selected universities. This would be an incredible opportunity as it would give me exposure abroad and further reduce my aspirations to possibly work abroad in the future. To gain experience working abroad, I contacted an entrepreneur named Sergei Kim in Moscow, the owner of the sushi bar franchises “Roll Biri” and “Three samurai”. We visited some regions of Russia, including Dmitrov and Vidnoye. The objective was for me to understand what factors were looked for when opening a new outlet as well as how the business was structured. Working as a personal assistant, I think the enrichment it brought me was immeasurable, as I learned how a Korean who emigrated to Western Russia became a successful businessman. Sergei and I have kept in touch, meeting up in London last August to discuss the possibility of opening outlets in the UK. I believe that through this I demonstrated independence, confidence and initiative. Having been digitally tested daily in mathematics, I am able to understand statistical data and see what models it can be fitted to and correlated with. This is particularly useful when trying to understand information in economics. By currently studying the “J Curve” and how currency depreciation affects both imports and exports of local goods, I have been able to use my analytical skills and mathematical graphing skills to expand my knowledge. broaden my understanding of real-world economic models. I can quickly grasp new theories and concepts in classes and am excited to see them applied to current global issues. This intrigues me and helps me appreciate more the concepts I study rather than seeing them as equations or formulas into which I plug numbers. Studying Russian sparked in me a fascination with the global economy and allowed me to see how cultural differences also determine the price and income elasticity of certain goods and services. Using systematic approaches has developed my problem-solving skills as well as my rationality. Russian is also a language I would like to explore more at university, as it will help me communicate with my Russian-speaking family members and could even provide new avenues for future career choices. I was raised in a family of six children by a single mother, so the world of chaos was always familiar to me. Therefore, I also took on great responsibilities and was able to condition myself well to very stressful environments. I am committed and willing to try new things. An example of this would be this year's school performance "The Sound of Music", in which I took on the role.
