In countries like India and China, there is an increase in anti-female bias (BBC Ethics Guide, 2014). Female infanticide is the deliberate killing of female babies, mainly due to gender imbalance in these countries. Economically, men are more valuable than women. Men earn more than women and are more employable, so they are less likely to be killed. In many countries, parents depend on their children to take care of their old age. However, if a girl gets married, she cannot take care of her parents, while men are considered a gain to elderly parents. Girls are therefore considered an economic waste, particularly in large and low-income families. Dowry is the transfer of parental property when a daughter marries.
