2,648,848 volunteer hours, schools built in 45 countries, so many coins collected that if stacked on top of each other they would weigh more than 64 elephants from Africa [collected to obtain drinking water in Africa]; the root cause of all these good deeds is one person. Craig Kielburger was and continues to be a significant person in Canadian history. He forever changed Canadian history through his ever-growing list of good deeds, including: the movement he started to inspire young people, the way he continues to change the lives of people around the world, and the way he brings people together to create change. . Craig continues to demonstrate Canada's pride through his actions. Craig started a global movement that inspires today's youth. In many ways, he continues to shape the way young minds think through his personal story, the creation and expansion of We Day, and his continued efforts to stay connected to modern technology. In the beginning, Craig Kielburger started wanting to make a difference and help people when he was 12 years old. He saw that Iqbal Masih, a boy barely younger than him, was killed because he spoke out against child labor. This act of courage by a boy in such a difficult situation sparked Craig's curiosity and marked the beginning of his organization "Free the Children." These humble beginnings would bring so much change to the world and the story would inspire children around the world for many years to come. Additionally, Craig launched and grew We Day, an annual “youth empowerment” event that motivates young people to take action on local and global issues. This event has grown to inspire more children each year; "In 2007, during the first We Day, 8,000 young people gathered at the Ricoh Coliseum in Toronto to discover...... middle of paper ...... objects saved and improved will never be the same again . Every time he built a school, gave a speech, raised a penny, inspired just one person, he changed a life. More importantly, it made that person want to change their life.
