    Both governments recognize the birthright of all people in Northern Ireland to identify and be accepted as Irish or British, or both, as they choose , and accordingly confirm that their right to hold both British and Irish citizenship is accepted by both governments and would not be affected by any future changes to the status of Northern Ireland. (Belfast Agreement (Good Friday), 10 April 1998, article (vi)) I will analyze Sean Byrne's study on the effects of historical identity on two groups of Protestant schoolchildren in Northern Ireland (Byrne, 2000 , p.92). One group attended an integrated school while the other attended a non-integrated school. Byrne's goal was to determine whether schoolchildren in integrated schools… approached his study using interpersonal identity theory, intergroup identity theory, and structural change. I will examine the limitations and shortcomings of his study and determine that his theories...I will apply...theories to Byrne's study and examine the limitations and shortcomings. I will apply the theory to further peacebuilding. I will review specific historical details in order to provide context for Byrne's study and my analysis: (1) the history of conflict between Protestant Unionists and Catholic Nationalists, (2) the history of distrust Protestant. and identification with Britain, and (3) the history of educational segregation in Northern Ireland.
