Essay / Imagine: The Song of the Past and Present - 850
The song Imagine by John Lennon is about how he imagined a utopian society where there are no prejudices and only equality; there are no wars but only peace. Lennon dreamed of a society united and working together, and he was not the only dreamer who wanted this reality. However, the issues mentioned in the lyrics didn't just apply to the 1980s, when the song was produced; this applies to all of human history and will also apply to future events. The era in which the song was produced gave people insight into the culture, political affairs, and social issues of the time, but these issues can still apply to today's generations. The era of the 1980s was full of culture within music. during production. The songs of the time were imbued with thoughts and meanings of peace, justice, equality and the desire for change. The era of the hippie movement began in the mid-1960s and continued into the 1980s, but quickly died out as many merged into materialist culture. This was also the time when excessive drug use was common and led many people to become nonconformists and rebel against their government. Partly because these drugs were so readily available, musical artists were heavily controlled by these narcotics and "influenced" their lyrical talents. Lennon as well as the rest of the Beatles had their experience with drugs and intrinsically influenced the meaning of their lyrics. They often spoke of finding peace in a dream world that the normal citizen believed did not exist on Earth, when in reality their world was at war. The Cold War began in 1947 when Joseph Stalin rose up and created an authoritarian communist country of today's Russia. It reflected his ideal way of living in the middle of paper......which gave citizens insight into the culture, political affairs and social issues of the time, but these issues are still relevant today . it's really a problem these days, and they're only getting worse.
