If a child sees his mother treated as an object to his father, then he might grow up with similar standards for women. Blatant discrimination includes violent discrimination such as rape, sexual harassment and domestic violence. Most women are injured by domestic violence within the home rather than by rape and car accidents combined. Blatant discrimination may begin within the home, but it also continues in the job market. Even though women have broken barriers in some professions, they still face segregation at work. Despite the minority of women in male-dominated careers, women still hold a significant share of secretarial careers while men hold management positions. An interesting statistic given by the book states that women make up about 8.5 percent of dentists, compared to 98.4 percent of women who work as dental assistants.
