Essay / Reflection on Haiti - 707
When the country Haiti comes to mind, the first thing I think of is plantain because when I was a child I always confused it. Is it a banana or what? But now, when I think about it, I choose to think deeper. Growing up, I saw people talking about Haiti and all we imagined was slums, poverty and broken souls. I even embraced the idea that people would always leave Haiti, and also that no one would return. After seeing the photos from the video, it really changed my view of the country and made me believe one thing. In America, in the mainstream media, only negatives from Haiti or other Caribbean islands are shown to the masses. With admiration and curiosity, I watched the images scroll across my screen.
