Feedback is important for the academic growth of students, it guides them. Implementing assessments that provide timely feedback is essential to student academic success. Teachers can provide feedback to students when they share their improvements in particular skills. For feedback to be effective, teachers must share with students what the specific goals or expectations are for a lesson or activity. Feedback should be timely and relevant to what students are learning and in a way that will not make them uncomfortable. With English language learners, teachers need to be specific about assessment criteria. When receiving feedback on assessments, teachers should also list individual target students missed rather than just giving students a broader overview of what should be improved. Sociocultural assessments should be an essential part of every school that serves English language learners. These assessments give English learners a little more fairness. Through the use of relevant feedback and fairness in assessment, students will be able to excel. However, it is ultimately the teacher's decision to implement them as a form of best practice and also make the necessary accommodations to promote student success. Teachers must be willing to do the extra work necessary to make these assessments as comfortable and effective as they are.
