Essay / Are social networking sites good for our society? : The...
Did you know that 82% of the world's population uses networking sites? That's a significant number of people, and not just in the United States. I'm talking about 5,000,000,000 people in the world. There is a very wide range of social networking sites used for many purposes. In this essay I will talk about the great impact of social networking sites on our society. Social networking sites have a positive effect on our society. Statistics show that “59% of students with access to the Internet report using social networking sites to discuss educational topics and 50% use these sites to talk about their schoolwork.” Along with this, “20% of students across the entire school voluntarily completed work leading to extra credit.” See, this here shows that social media sites have a positive impact on our society. Students use the website for their homework and it also improves their grades. Many children voluntarily participated in work that carried extra credit. More than half of students also reported using sites to discuss educational topics and talk about their schoolwork with other children. It's a great interaction. Have you ever taken the time to recognize all the adults who use social networking sites around you? If you did, you'd probably know what they use it for. “70% of adult social media users visit these sites to connect with friends and family, and increased online communication strengthens relationships.” Additionally, “88% say social media helps them stay in touch with friends they can't see regularly, 69% say they get to know students at their school better, and 57% make new friends.” This is a positive thing because it helps our society connect with each other. We all...... middle of paper ......st without commenting, because they have no one to talk to on the social site, so there will be no need to comment. For some, this has lowered their self-esteem because they feel like they don't matter on these sites and that no one wants to pay attention to them. In conclusion, social media sites have a negative impact on our society. However, with the evidence that the counterclaim was accurate, it did not change my mind. I stand by my assertion that social media sites have a positive impact on our society, as I feel the counterclaim was not strong enough to change my mind. I think social media sites have a more positive than negative impact on our society. So I recommend creating social media sites. So when these sites are up and running, we will have more ways to interact positively with our society..
