Robert Herrick was born in Cheapside, London in 1591. Robert was the seventh child of Nicholas Herrick. Nicholas Herrick, her father was a successful goldsmith who made a will two days before jumping from the fourth floor window of his home. Robert had to grow up without his father, but he had help from his six siblings. Robert Herrick had a large family. The Herrick family had their hands in everything, so Robert really could have decided almost anything he wanted. In 1607 he was apprenticed to his uncle Sir William Herrick as a goldsmith. Robert always knew it was a good deal because gold never ages. Herrick always had a love for writing and he knew since he was very young that he wanted to eventually pursue it. Herrick attended St. John's College, Cambridge in 1613. Robert earned a Bachelor of Arts in 1617 and a Master of Arts in 1620. Robert felt that going to school could be of great help to him. He now feels ready to pursue his poetry writing professionally.Braha 2One of Robert Herrick's early works, "A Country Life," really helped him get off to a good start. The poem was about his move from London to agricultural life in Leicesterishire. Herrick joined a group of Cavalier poets who idolized Ben Johnson, mingling in London's literary circles. Herrick was also a very religious man and was used on some expeditions. On April 24, 1623, Herrick was ordered to be minister and act as Chaplin to Buckingham on an expedition. When there were large expeditions, they always made sure to have a minister on hand to help them if needed. Even during the expedition he wrote in his free time. Herrick was a man well respected by all. The king even asked him to lead a church called Dean Prior, which was one of the largest churches of the time. Herrick lived a secluded life in the countryside and wrote some of his best works. In 1647 he was expelled from the government. Robert decides to settle in London to publish his religious poems.
