  • Essay / Environmental Education - 2094

Environmental EducationWhen developing a curriculum, teachers must determine three types of objectives: facts, skills, and appreciation of something. The “appreciation of” objective is the one that an environmental class insists on. Environmental lessons emphasize the importance of conserving the Earth by creating environmental responsibility, evokes morality. When it comes to conservation, we need to decide what is important and what certain actions we want to take to preserve what we deem important. This is why it is crucial for teachers to decide what is necessary to include in an environmental education program to raise awareness and teach ethical issues. Teachers must teach the three views that one can take on the environment. Once these ideas are taught, they must be explained according to the logic behind them; the students themselves need to see realistic examples and feel connected to the environment. In doing so, the teacher helps the student develop the environmental morality necessary to form opinions on issues that affect the Earth. The first part of the program that must be established is a clear definition of each point of view. Anthropocentrism, biocentrism, and egocentrism must be clearly defined in order to provide students with the foundation necessary to make an informed decision about which paradigm they will adopt. Anthropocentrism is defined as “a worldview that views humans as the most powerful beings.” important factor and value in the Universe” (Anthropocentrism). Students should clearly understand how this definition extends to worldview; so, more than a definition, they need to know what details make up this vision. They should know that anthropocentrism is above all a mechanistic middle of paper......that acts sustainably and is sensitive to the environment.
