Early in the Bible in the book of Genesis, it is revealed in 1:26-27 that God created man in his image. The text states verbatim: “Then God said, “Let us make man in our image, after our likeness…So God created man in his own image, in the image of God he created him; male and female he created them. From this distinct text we can clearly conclude that when they created man and woman, they were intended to be in the image of God and to bear his image throughout his creation. Today we can see that many of us are not living in the image of God due to the secularization of society over the years. However, as Christians we can remedy this by living in the image of God in our chosen vocations, in churches, and even in the world. secular world. One might wonder what exactly it means to be created in the image of God. For someone unfamiliar with the Christian religion, this may find it confusing. Living in the image of God does not exactly mean living as if you were God, which would be blasphemy, but rather using our attributes that God has given us that are similar to His own. Christians are aware that the image of God is holy, merciful, benevolent, just, independent and also rational since he has the capacity to reason. So, since humans were created in the image of God, we all possess these characteristics. When it comes to the secular world, one of the most challenging attributes God has instilled in us is the ability to be as benevolent as God. As humans, it seems difficult for you to love everyone and everything on this planet. Some argue that this is impossible, but from a theistic perspective, if God is capable of being kind to all and we are made in His exact image, then it should be relatively the same for us. The image of God is magnificent and awe-inspiring, being one of the most beautiful creations to date. The image of God is meant to be appreciated and ultimately to help change the world.
