Essay / Late American Immigration - 907
The only thing that has changed is the discrimination against immigrants. From the late 1800s to the early 1900s, the most discriminated against immigrants were Chinese, Italians, and blacks. These groups were discriminated against not only because of their different ethnicities, but also because the American people viewed them as a threat. They felt their American way of life was threatened and feared these immigrants would take their jobs or earn more than they did. Today, immigrants are the most discriminated against; I think it's the Mexicans. Mexicans are discriminated against because they fear that those who have the least and suffer the most from this economic downturn will increase unemployment, that these immigrants will be more willing to take jobs they do not want, and that even those which were previously unwanted now become a valuable resource.
