    There are some diseases that people can overcome with the right treatment; However, some illnesses require a lifelong battle, even with treatment. A great example is diabetes. There are two types of diabetes. Type 1 diabetes is diagnosed during childhood or adolescence. Type 2 diabetes is diagnosed in adulthood. Type 1 diabetes is important but it only affects a small part of the population, mainly adolescents, while type 2 diabetes affects a large part of the population, making it a priority. The first step to understanding a disease is to find out how it is caused, the onset of its symptoms and finally its cure or treatment, but diabetes is one of the many diseases without a cure. Diabetes is a lifelong battle that can only be controlled through lifestyle changes and regular monitoring. Diabetes is a disease in which the body is not able to control the amount of sugar, such as glucose, in the blood. Blood supplies glucose to provide the body with energy to perform daily activities. The liver converts food consumed by a person into glucose. The glucose is then released into the bloodstream. “In a healthy person, blood sugar is regulated by several hormones, mainly insulin. Insulin is produced by the pancreas, a small organ located between the stomach and the liver. The pancreas also produces other important enzymes released directly into the intestine that help us digest food. Insulin allows glucose to move from the blood to cells throughout the body where it is used for fuel.
