  • Essay / Compare and Contrast Kant and Thomas Hobbes - 1218

I would like to believe, just like Kant, that people have a right to their own thoughts, that people should take advantage of their abilities and enlighten themselves rather than having constantly dependent on one or more people. Enforcing laws that the public has no say in and having an elected ruler who ignores the slightest input from the people is not a way to live in my opinion. It takes away the life of a community, takes away the freedom and rights of all. There should be a true and normal process in which people can step out of their immature role and make the decisions of an enlightened figure without the help of another. I believe that Kant justifies his claims more effectively in this comparison, and his theory is more compatible than Hobbes's in a modern context.
