Brothers are often mentioned throughout the oath due to the dominant number of men involved. Reading the oath, it doesn't give any indication as to why this only concerns men. This oath allowed doctors to be more accepted by society now that patients understood the role they played. Which, in turn, encourages more people to seek medical treatment when necessary.
