The more we read, the more we identify with Holden Caulfield. This sounds like a typical adolescent dilemma: how do I find my place in this life? Well, in many ways, Holden is not unlike the typical teenager. He too is in search of himself. He must find acceptance. While attending school in Pency, Holden becomes the manager of the fencing team. In doing so, he tried to gain friends as well as social status among his peers. Even then, the whole team ostracized him” (p. 3). Like most teenagers that age, Holden struggled with acceptance and making friends.
