Essay / Differences and Themes in the Necklace By Guy De...
Mathilde may not be first class, but she still has a nice apartment, a comfortable lifestyle, manicured hands and even a housekeeper to do all the cleaning. . These facts show that Mathilde is middle class, probably the upper half. Even though she seems to have a good life, she only sees what she doesn't have and compares herself to the first class women. Her dissatisfied character is described “as if she had gone bankrupt” (paragraph 2). Self-centeredness creates the misplacement of one's priorities. Having the most material, being the desire of every woman and the attraction of every man, are his goals in life. As for her unfulfilled character, she misses the wonderful life she led and even when her middle-class life is over, she still does not look fondly on the memories, which are all she has now of her old life. More importantly, she continues to miss the love and care her husband gives her and she continues to resent her parents for not having top-notch relationships and having to settle for marrying her husband, M . Loisel, because he is not a rich and well-known man.
