There is a time in life when carnal desires can have a tremendous hold on a person, to the point where they cause a backlash of a forced humility in the heart. King Eurovan is an example of someone who can relate to this topic. He is a character from the short story “The Journey of King Eurovan” in which he plays a cruel king who wanted to be in power. After abusing his power as king, it was finally taken away from him. In the story, Eurovan held the wrong prisoner and consequently lost his crown to the gazolba bird. In order to get his crown back, he had to travel to a foreign land and fight for it. Even if the outcome of his trip was the opposite of his motivations. Instead of reclaiming his power and regaining his crown, he humiliated himself by trying to obtain his crown during battle. He unexpectedly changes his mind and realizes that he is just a man who is not entitled to anything. King Eurovan thought very highly of himself, he wore a crown which had a "stuffed gazolba bird" (Smith) which was very beautiful, and the last of its kind. The crown was precious to him. This had given him confidence that he was in power. Although attachment to his crown and power was not his only problem, he also lacked the desire to help his people. The king only had the urgency to respond to his desires and needs. Eurovan showed no mercy to anyone who committed a crime "he meted out swift punishment to all wrongdoers." (Smith) He was never challenged or dominated by anyone. His bad manners became normal to him and acceptable to him. ...... middle of paper ...... fact, he could no longer be king. He humbly accepted this fact and instead built a new life for himself. King Eurovan's carnal desires finally took a toll on him and forced him to become humble. At first he was very hard-hearted and cruel. But with the visit of the prisoner Geol, his life changed forever. His power as king was taken away from him. To drive out the crown was to drive away its strongest dependence. It was his power and his ability to do what he wanted. But the journey he took to retrieve the bird and the crown took a different direction. He went to extremes to get what he wanted, but instead he was humiliated.
