Genres are categories of types of films, categorized into specific styles or topics, some genres remain unique within a film and other films have a mixed range of genres. Finding out the genre of a film before viewing it would reveal the subject matter and suitability of the film. For example, a crime/drama film may begin with a dramatic beginning, but as the film displays its genre, viewers will later know that the film will begin to involve crime scenes. What also defines what genre it is are certain basic characters. and dramatic situations associated with a specific category, such as a gangster with family problems. Those who watch films have their own interest in particular genres, so categorizing it is an easy way to promote the film to a particular audience. Genre also defines the type of emotion you will get from the film, a comedy will be funny so it will make people laugh and generally put people in a better mood than they were in or horror where it will scare people, people find it fun to scare, for some people it's mainly a younger audience, being scared to sleep. What defines a genre varies, props, locations, etc. vary.
