Shoes play an important role in revealing an individual's character, personality and perspective, gained through significant life experiences. In Cinderella, glass slippers are used to represent the character Cinderella. Glass is fragile and breaks easily; However, Cinderella's glass slippers never break, despite the impact of weight and occasional falls. Likewise, Cinderella never crumbles when faced with the harsh conditions of her disrespectful stepsisters and the endless list of chores (Cinderella gla…). In mythology, Hermes' superior personality as a god is expressed through winged sandals, which Homer described as "divine and golden" (Talaria). In All Quiet on the Western Front by Erich Maria Stratégie, the united perspective of the soldiers, formed during the hardships of World War I, is represented through the boots. Soldiers experience a shift in perspective when emotion and sensitivity are replaced by the ethic of survival at all costs. After Kemmerich's leg is amputated, Müller's only goal is to inherit Kemmerich's boots. The expected mourning and comfort were non-existent. Soldiers had learned not to give in to their feelings in the face of the ravages of war. “We have lost all sense of other considerations, because they are artificial.
