Essay / How my current extracurricular activities will help me...
Ever since I was little, music has always been integrated into my life in one way or another. When I was younger, the sounds of my mother playing an intricate Chopin melody on the piano always filled our house with such warm vibrancy, and I also remember in vivid detail my five-year-old self twirling inelegantly with my mother in the kitchen to the fixed rhythm of a Selena song while we prepared dinner. Being exposed to these moments in my life is what inspired me to join an orchestra in sixth grade and begin the path to becoming the gifted violist I am today. However, music wasn't the only thing I was interested in, as I knew that helping people was something I wanted to do permanently. What better way to help people than to become a doctor? In second grade, I wrote an essay declaring that I would undeniably be the first doctor to find a cure for my cousin's autism. Even my younger self knew that what I really wanted to do was help others. Although my choice of field has varied from anesthesiology to neurology, after being diagnosed with Addison's disease, I now know that endocrinology is the field I am most passionate about. However, the road to medical school will be long and will require vigorous diet and discipline as well as unwavering dedication. In order to achieve my dream of becoming an endocrinologist, I cannot afford to lose focus or slack off over these next four years. Fortunately, extracurricular activities such as orchestra and academic activities such as Dual Enrollment and Advanced Placement (AP) courses have prepared me with strong principles and habits that will allow me to be successful in achieving my goals. Playing in various philharmonic ensembles has taught me that even though everyone...... middle of paper ...... the abilities I acquired during my seven years in the orchestra, I know that I will not let anything stop me from achieving my goals. Orchestra has helped me develop a high level of concentration that will definitely follow me for the rest of my life, and I find myself concentrating easily in school rather than struggling like the rest of my peers. Observation skills will also help me study more effectively since I will be able to take full note of the material given to us. Going from the five-year-old who playfully swayed with her mother in the kitchen to the musician seeking a medical degree is all thanks to the different methods in which music has been involved in my life, and I'm thrilled to 'use my skills. inherited the orchestra in order to realize my life goal of helping others and becoming an endocrinologist.
