In this essay I will demonstrate how Albert Bandura's Bobo Doll Theory can be applied to criminal behavior in society today and how his method presents certain structural defects during its application. to today's societal problems which will be the subject of criticism. The criminological theory to which this applies is social learning theory which implies that people will imitate or copy what others do. This especially applies to children as they seek approval from parents and others. I will explain other research methods available and why they were not used. Albert Bandura conducted a famous experiment known as the Bobo doll experiment. The experiment contributed to the development of social learning theory. Bandura had 4 hypotheses for his experiment. His hypotheses are that male children will tend to be more violent than girls, because men tend to be more violent in nature than women, which society usually tolerates. Another hypothesis was that the gender of the observed model would influence children of the same gender because the child would identify with the adult and think this is how I can behave. Another reason is that children who have been exposed to the non-aggressive model will be less likely to advocate violent tendencies than the other group of children. His final theory was that children who watched the model behave aggressively would reproduce actions similar to those performed by the model. (Martyn Shuttleworth, March 26, 2008) The method Bandura used for this experiment; Bandura recruited 36 males and 36 females ages 3 to 6 from Stanford University preschool and the models for this experiment were one male and one female...... middle of paper .... .. using the toy to prevent any harm from occurring is beneficial for everyone because it allows children to vent their frustrations on the toys without causing harm to others. To conclude, although there are flaws in Bandura's method, it still provides evidence of the importance of his research. demonstrated how different attitudes and behaviors towards children can change the child's morals about what is right and wrong, which, if left unpunished, could lead to criminal behavior. As demonstrated above, Bandura's methods have been applied to today's societal issues and adapted to how I would have done it if I were the one leading it. Other research methods were analyzed against the method used by Bandura and found that his method of using observational research is the only one that would gather enough data relevant to his hypothesis..
