Essay / Daniel Bernoulli and his contributions - 886
In the 1700s, one of the most brilliant minds in physics, mathematics, and medicine was born. Daniel Bernoulli was born into the family of the great mathematician Johann Bernoulli on February 8, 1700. From the beginning, Daniel Bernoulli was surrounded by mathematics and the great talent of his father and brother, also his sworn enemy, Jacob Bernoulli. Although you would think that his father would have given him a lot of support in becoming a mathematician, he did not. Johann Bernoulli forced his son to study medicine because he thought being a mathematician brought no luck; Nevertheless, Daniel Bernoulli has defied all predictions. After convincing his father to give him some mathematics lessons, he became one of the greatest physicists of the century; publishing numerous discoveries. During his medical studies, Daniel became interested in the work of William Harvey, On the Movement of Heat and Blood in Animals. Harvey suggested that the heart was like a pump that circulated blood through the arteries. These discoveries marked the beginning of Daniel's interest in fluid dynamics (Miller, 2011). In 1720 he went to Venice to study medicine but ended up working in mathematics. After winning the Paris Academy's annual competition for an hourglass that would continue to tell accurate time even in constant motion, Bernoulli was invited to St. Petersburg by Catherine I of Russia. According to Allali and Bui, the next few years in Russia will be the most prosperous and productive. For example, he worked with Leonhard Euler and helped him discover the theory of Euler-Bernoulli beams. The theory was a simplified version of the linear theory of elasticity. It provided the means of calculating the supported load and deflection...... middle of paper ......ydrodynamica developed on the theories of water mills, windmills, water pumps and propellers and distinguished between hydrostatic and hydrodynamic pressure, or the pressure when the fluid is static and when it is moving. Daniel Bernoulli may have had a difficult father compared to the rest of us. Johann Bernoulli banned his son from his house after winning the same prize in the Paris Academy of Sciences competition and then plagiarizing his work Hydrodynamica with Hydraulica. Daniel's family background was terrible; nevertheless, this did not prevent Daniel Bernoulli from becoming a sublime scientist. His discoveries on Bernoulli's principle became the general principle of hydrodynamics and are of vital importance to modern aeronautics. We are grateful for the time Daniel cut short; because at that time, it took six months to move from one continent to another.
