Peter Brook's film and William Golding's novel, Lord of the Flies, demonstrate evil within itself, the corruption of power and immaturity of youth. Both the book and the film projected these political and social themes. A major theme presented in Lord of the Flies is evil itself. An example of this theme is Piggy's murder. In the movie there is a scene where Roger is standing near a huge rock and Piggy is at the bottom. Roger deliberately pushed the rock to kill Piggy. Roger wanted to get rid of Piggy because he opposed Jack. This shows the evil in Roger and that he had the courage to murder Piggy. It also shows that the boys have become naughty and are not willing to solve problems without violence. Another piece of evidence that represents this theme is the death of Simon. Simon had just returned from discovering that the boys were wrong about the beast. The boys saw it and thought it was the beast. The boys began to sing their song: “Kill the beast! Cut his throat!
