People say that Asperger's disorder causes people to do things that are considered abnormal and immoral in society and they also apply this logic to killers in series, such as the case of Jeffrey Dahmer where he murdered and dismembered seventeen innocent victims between the 1980s and 1990s. Asperger's syndrome is a common theme among serial killers, but it is not a cause as to why they committed the acts they committed. Most of the time people need to blame something or explain why a seemingly normal individual commits such heinous acts and then these disorders are further misinterpreted and distorted by other people who continue to insist on this. blame. Dahmer suffered from numerous disorders and without knowing exactly what they all meant, people could not get an accurate picture of him and therefore believed they were the cause of his disturbed mind. These misinterpretations have led to our current culture where people may consider an individual to have a disorder, specifically Asperger's or another autism spectrum disorder. When reviewing information regarding Dahmer and Asperger's syndromes, people should keep in mind that this is only a possible diagnosis and not a true diagnosis. Asperger's syndrome was only raised as a possible diagnosis after his death. This is only a possible diagnosis because psychologists and psychiatrists were unable to study Dahmer in depth during his lifetime. Several sources discuss people's opinions and why they also believe he had Asperger's syndrome.
