  • Essay / The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner by Randall Jarell...

Literature is known as a published written work composed of numerous literary elements. Literary elements are the writer's artistic techniques to set up or convey a specific message to us, the readers. Symbolism is a double-edged sword for most writers because it adds a double meaning to the work. The author shows symbolic meanings and our mind sees these images in our brain and we automatically refer to them or compare them to something. What a symbol represents in a story is related to the context given to it. In “The Death of the Turret Shooter” by Randall Jarrell, he designates the literary element. Much like Robert Frost's "Fire and Ice," the symbolism is clear in the name as much as the story. In “The Death of the Ball Turret Gunner” by Randall Jarrell, it means the use of symbolism in a poetic work. The poem was written in 1945, at the outbreak of World War II. The "ball turret gunner" is a machine gunner positioned upside down in a glass sphere on the exterior of a bomber. From the title we can already imply that this person has already died, perhaps after their known death was imminent. The story begins with the words "From my mother's sleep I fell into the state." He awoke from his mother's sleep, a sleep which is normally a time of rest for us, and he fell into this state. It wasn't even his own sleep, it was his mother's, which makes the situation even more dramatic. As if he had been taken in the middle of the night under his wing and left to fall into the hands of the fate of the world (the army). Falling is a symbolic word because falling is never really a happy reason unless it refers to love. But this dead shooter fell while his mother was sleeping, which may mean separation...... middle of paper......fire, some say in the mirror." One thing is we we don't know when the world will end, but it will be according to one or another scientist. The world really doesn't know how long it will end, and it's not tomorrow. the end of the world with a lot of freedom, without emotion, as if it were inevitable The symbolic meaning of fire and ice varies according to the different types of people who remind the author of these elements The fire that we know and. that we think of carries light and heat, but also pain and burning. Ice is a kind of cold ignorance and hatred. Fire and ice have such deep meanings because they resemble the type of. people you will meet every day in life The poem makes you relive all the times when the world was supposedly going to end. The symbol that Fire and Ice represent is the end of times. This symbolic poem was like a vague prediction.
