After reading this definition, I started to feel ashamed because I wanted to become familiar with the LGBT community and how they are affected by discrimination within their community. My shame led me to contact a friend to attend a meeting and I am now considering becoming a volunteer. By becoming a volunteer, I will not only help generate social interest, but I will also seek to develop professional relationships with other volunteers and staff. This could be useful after completing the MAO program and help me determine what population I would like to work with..
