  • Essay / Biological Warfare - 874

New terror technologies and their increasing mobility improve every day. Many types of warfare aim to eliminate large numbers of people, and some even seek to eliminate specific individuals. The specific technique I'm going to focus on is called biological warfare. Biological warfare is a type of warfare that targets specific people or a specific entire country. When biological warfare is used, it usually involves a substance in which to harm another through immediate death or death by exposure. The substance is generally used in a confined space for maximum exposure of victims from the gas, disease or radiation. Biological warfare usually kills people instantly or has long-term effects that haunt the victim for the rest of their lives. Biological warfare dates back to 400 BC, when the Spartan Greeks used highly acidic sulfur vapors against British enemy soldiers, which at that time was very effective, so this technique was used very often at that time. In 1914, during World War I, poisonous gases were released and also proved to be very effective. This toxic gas has caused more than 100,000 deaths and 900,000 casualties. Although the potential for nuclear annihilation was reduced with the end of the cold. war, America still faces attacks using weapons of mass destruction. Given that the United States now has a military advantage over its former enemies, concern for nuclear deterrence should take a back seat to protection against small terrorist attacks using biological weapons. Biological weapons have catastrophic lethal potential and are easy to manufacture and conceal. US defensive measures, however, should continue to improve to protect itself and Britain.
