Ct. 1297Facts: A Wyoming police officer conducted a routine traffic stop during which David Young was the driver and Houghton and another companion were the passengers. During the traffic stop, officers observed a syringe in Young's front shirt pocket. When the officer questioned the youth, he admitted that the syringe was used to take drugs. The officer then searched the car and its compartments in which he found a handbag belonging to Houghton, as she admitted it was hers. Officers then searched the purse and found drug paraphernalia, and the defendant was arrested on drug charges. In the trial court, the defendant was denied a motion to suppress all evidence because she argued it was obtained as a result of an illegal search, believing the officers had no reason likely to search the car or any container containing the car that may contain contraband.
