    45 million low-income Americans rely on at least one of many welfare programs. Many of these government assistance programs deal with fraud and abuse. “Some cases of misuse of government aid are more egregious than others, but some aid recipients use underhanded tactics that give other Americans in need a bad name” (Calonia 1). Clearly, people are abusing the system to get money they don't deserve. This makes it more difficult for people who need welfare programs to get the money they need to support their families. Government assistance programs are being abused by people who don't want to work for a living. They lie on paper to receive money they personally don't need. This leaves the government with less money to provide to families who actually rely on welfare programs. Although government assistance programs help many people, many others abuse the system in order to receive more money or any money at all. There should therefore be more security in receiving benefits. Government aid programs began in the United States....
