Mary Ann Evans was a woman who lived a controversial and unconventional life. Many of his choices in his life have shocked many people. She finally earned the deserved credit of an accomplished author. His works stand alone and are not overshadowed by his personal life decisions. She was known as one of the finest Victorian writers, dealing with issues of social change and triumphs of the heart. His remarkable talent shows the depth and scope of English life. Many of his novels are today included in the Canon of classic literary works of the 19th century. Mary Ann Evans changed her name to be taken seriously as a writer. Silas Marner is based on a childhood memory of a linen weaver. This novel was a rustic novel, which shows the contrast between the ills of modern society and the value of a simple life close to nature. Silas Marner is a linen weaver who lives in a remote village. The townspeople would make fun of him. Silas had been falsely accused of theft. Silas begins to care more about the gold from his weaving than about God and society. Silas had all his gold stolen. Molly Farren walks in the snow, collapses and dies. His daughter wanders to the Silas cabin. Silas thinks the girl is his dead sister who has come back to life. Marner welcomes the young orphan and gives her the name Eppie in honor of her deceased sister. Eppie becomes more valuable than stolen gold. The villagers are happy to learn that Silas is adopting the girl. Silas is forgiven since he does something good. Silas Marner does not want to separate from Eppie when she is tempted to be adopted by Godfrey Cass who is her real father who was secretly married to Molly.
