I am the only child in my family, so I often felt a kind of loneliness. Finally, instead of a sibling, on my eleventh birthday, I received a very special gift from my lovely parents. It was a white cat with a few black spots on its legs and near its neck. I proudly called him Tom because I was a big fan of the “Tom and Jerry” cartoons that caught me on TV every night. I can't find words to describe these happy moments of my childhood spent playing with Tom. I built him a little house out of Lego pieces, forced him to stay in bed watching cartoons together and taught him how to play football and other tricks, and wash Tom in the bath was also a fun challenge for me. Today I am much older, but the exciting love for cats has not disappeared. Sometimes, walking through the streets of my city, when I saw poor homeless cats, I felt great regret at their difficult life. However, at the same time, I saw many more land animals killed to become my food later, and my feelings were not the same. My love and compassion only extended to cats, but not to a cow or a pig, mainly because they had never been as close to me as the cat. Unfortunately, I'm not the only one who faces such a problem when people care exclusively about the animals they love.
