    The Roman Catholic Catechism teaches that the moment a sperm enters an egg, a life is formed, therefore "a human being must be recognized as having the rights of a person. » (“Catechism of the Catholic Church”). The Church also condemns abortion for any reason, as it is considered murder, a crime, a grave evil and a mortal sin. Additionally, some religious groups prohibit elective abortion for reasons of personal or social convenience, but many religious denominations believe that there are certain circumstances in which abortion is justified: "...a life-threatening pregnancy of the mother or which occurred inappropriately. the result of rape or incest” (“Official Positions of Religious Groups on Abortion”). Such a view is sanctioned by The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; Episcopal Church; Evangelical Lutheran Church; Hinduism; Islam; and Judaism. Although there is conflict among religious denominations over the question of what is morally right regarding abortion, many agree on the importance of the mother's well-being when determining whether or not it is ethically right to have an abortion.
