Essay / The Zodiac Killer Project - 2085
The Zodiac Killer ProjectThe Zodiac Killer's felony murders are one of the biggest unsolved murder cases of all time. The Zodiac Murders took place from the late 1960s until around 1972. Most of the Zodiac murders took place in Northern California. The main areas where murders have occurred are Benicia, Vallejo, Lake Berryessa and San Francisco, California. Two of the four men attacked survived and three of the three women were killed. The victims' ages range from 16 to approximately 29 years old. The Zodiac claimed he murdered 37 people in letters he sent to the local newspaper. Investigators were only able to confirm seven victims, two of whom survived. The seven murders involved David Faraday, Betty Jensen, Michael Mageau, Darlene Ferrin, Bryan Hartnell, Cecelia Shepard and Paul Stine. The Zodiac struck first when he committed the murders during the Lake Herman Road attack. This involved the shootings of 16-year-old Betty Lou Jenson and 17-year-old David Arthur Faraday, both at high school. The date of the first murders was December 20, 1968 along Lake Herman Road in the town of Benicia, California. Around 10:15 p.m., David Faraday parked his mother's hiker off the road in Lover's Lane, which is a crossing point on the side of the road. Shortly after 11 p.m., their bodies were found by a local resident, Stella Borges. No leads were found when the Solano County Sheriff's Department looked into the case. After the forensic data was analyzed by Robert Graysmith, he concluded that another car had entered the turnout shortly before 11:00 p.m. and parked right next to Faraday's car. The murderer then got out of his car and walked towards Faraday and Jensen while they were in their car, he...... middle of paper ...... there was a partner. Thompson 5The Zodiac changed its appearance for many to have a physical description, its most known for the symbol it wore and wrote on its letters. There is still no one responsible for the Zodiac murders. No one has been arrested or identified as the Zodiac Killer, but most of the agencies that conducted the investigation have kept the investigation open and still have not closed it. The San Francisco Police Department closed its investigation in April 2004 but reopened it in March 2007.Thompson 6Work CitedGraysmith, Robert. Zodiac. New York, NY: Berkley Books, 2007.
