Essay / Allegiant, from the Divergent series - 674
AllegiantBeatrice Prior is one of the two main characters in this book. She is described as intimidating and courageous. Tris (her nickname) has brown hair and is described as beautiful (from Tobias's perspective.) She is very curious and usually looks at the glass half full. Her nickname, Six, comes from the fact that she only has 6 fears. She has a boyfriend, Tobias, who is called "Four" for exactly the same reason. Tris is a Divergent, which we learn in the book means she has cured genes. Her brother, Caleb, betrayed her and her family, and now that he's back in her life, she's not so sure of him. "...so he couldn't poison her like he did everything else." » (36%). This is just a brief explanation from Tris Prior. The main idea of Allegaint is that we must learn to accept each other's differences. At the beginning of the book, the main characters simply thought that there were Divergents and non-Divergents. When they moved out of their city (Chicago), they learned that there were only GPs (genetically pure people) and GDs (genetically damaged people). Tris found out she was a GP, but her friends were all GDs. There was conflict outside of experiences (in towns like where Tris grew up) about treating GPs differently from GPs. At the end of the book, Tris and her friends set the record straight about treating GPs and GPs differently. This book is in first person, although it is a little different from most books. Instead of it being one person telling the story, it's two people. Tris and Four. The two change their point of view almost every two chapters. Even though there are two people telling the story, it's still in the first person. The following quote is from chapter 34 and Tris is speaking. ““I didn't know you would be...... middle of paper...... - lack of clarityConnotative- silent, almost afraid or sneaky•Attractive p. 243- Denotative- evoking or attracting interestConnotative- beautiful and astonishing•Tyrant p. 314- Denotative- a ruler who uses his power unjustly.
