    I. Film title: The Good Things II. Major characters: Chuck Yeager, John Glenn, Alan Sheppard, Gordo Cooper, Gus GrissomIII. Historical period: America in the 1940s (during space exploration)IV. Film Plot: This film is basically about the advancement of American technology and how it affected the space race against the Soviets. It revolves around the Mercury 7 crew and test pilots competing with the Soviets for the race to space.V. Film Summary: The Right Stuff begins in 1947, on an air base called Muroc Army Air Field. At present, many test pilots are testing new advanced aircraft carriers capable of breaking the sound barrier. At this time, Chuck Yeager is offered to test the X-1, a plane capable of breaking the speed of sound, but he has already had a horse riding accident in which he broke a few bones before. He fears that this accident will limit his ability to pilot the X-1. So later, Yeager is able to complete his mission and, for the first time, break the speed of sound. The film then progresses to 1953 at Edwards Air Force Base, which is the exact same air base, but it was renamed in honor of one of the test pilots who died during a mission. Right now, Yeager and other test pilots are competing to see who actually has the good stuff. The USSR launched Sputnik, the first satellite into space, which frightened the United States because it was the first major advance in space technology. This event gives full effect to the space race between the United States and the USSR. It was around this time that the names of Alan Sheppard and John Glenn came to prominence. As the film continues, seven final astronauts are chosen to form the Mercury 7. Many men were not selected, such as Ch...... middle of paper ......eorge for develop a feeling of gratuity. I like movies where someone is able to be the person who helps open another's eyes to what they should be lucky for.VII. This film helped show how hard the Great Depression hit small towns and how it affected the lives of many families. It created a visual of how people learned to appreciate what they have and come together. And also how people overcame what they lost.VIII. Awards Received: Nominated for five Academy Awards and also won a Golden Globe Award, a CEC Award, an NBR Award and a National Film Registry (www.imdb.com)IX Award. My Notes: I really enjoyed the movie It's a Wonderful Life because the story opened my eyes. It helped me develop a sense of appreciation for what I have.
