Teachers should have the option to be armedThe topic “Teachers should be armed” interests me so much because I met a teacher who was faced with a school shooting and he really believed it. if the teachers had been armed, the shootings would never have happened. There have been numerous cases of shootings inside schools, innocent people have been injured, and students and even staff members have felt unsafe at school. I myself met someone who dealt with the deadly tragedy of a shooting inside Columbine High School, who saw the lives of his own students end because of two boys who thought killing them could improve theirs. It completely changed his view of why a teacher should be armed. “If the teachers had been armed on April 20, 1999, this would never have happened,” he said. This teacher told me that if he had been armed that day, he could have saved the lives of the students, because he felt helpless in the face of the shooting and there was nothing he could do. Cases like these, teachers should be prepared with a weapon at the ready. Arming teachers will reduce the risk of school shootings. There have been numerous cases of school shootings over the past decade and we need to put an end to them. Innocent lives are taken, students don't feel safe or want to learn, and the school is no longer what it once was. Last year, there was a shooting at Sandy Hook Elementary School, in which many innocent children and teachers were killed. Victoria Soto, a teacher who worked at Sandy Hook, was shot and killed for hiding her students in a closet and told the gun they were in the gym just so the kids could be safe and risked her life to them. However, children can learn to know right from wrong and learn that guns are not good to have in a child's hands. Children will also learn that teachers are armed only for safety reasons and that they will feel safer at school instead of afraid to be there. School shootings continue to happen and we need to stop them. We need to prepare these teachers and make them ready to fight. Students deserve to be able to rest easy knowing that something could have been done. This is why we need to arm these teachers. It's a cold world if someone walks into a school with a gun, teachers should also have their guns ready for dismissal of their children. A school is a fun place to learn but also to stay safe. This is why teachers should be armed.
