I still remember the last sentence my parents said to me as I was about to board the plane leaving China for America: “take care of yourself and be careful.” However, the experience of riding a college bus for the first time was not at all safe. As a new international student, I arrived on campus a week early before classes started. So there were very few people on the bus heading to the market around 2 p.m. when I got on. After I sat down, a black woman moved from her original seat to my left seat. A few minutes passed, she started talking to me, asking where I was going, and I told her I was going to Best Buy. Then she excitedly told me that I should get off the bus after two more stops, which makes me think that she is really friendly and nice. After chatting for a few minutes, she suddenly came up to me and whispered, "Do you think you can help me with a few dollars?" I was scared and terrified. Luckily, that's when my stop came, so I ran off the bus feeling like I was about to be robbed and punched by this black woman. I have never experienced this kind of “borrowing” of money before, and that is why this event left such a deep impression on me. This then begs the question “how safe is campus?” came to mind for the first time. As I was concerned about campus safety, the Police Chief's Office sent an email regarding an aggravated robbery via the crime alert system to my university email address. This email contains two links to the criminal videos captured by one of the security cameras. It was a bright afternoon on October 10, 2011 around 4:19 p.m., the victim was sitting at a table in front of Espresso Royale...... middle of paper ...... imaginary conclusion that I done, new questions appeared which I have not yet answered. For example, how many crimes were committed on campus in one year? Are the victims mostly university students? What is the percentage of criminal arrests? Does the University allow students to own firearms?
