  • Essay / Analyzing Your Intention to Sell Your Home - 950

Instilling a general rule, or maxim, and then wishing for it to happen is a sign that moral permissiveness is present. Right actions are those that follow these guidelines. Having every item of information communicated between owners for the duration of the house's existence would ensure moral permissiveness. This concept is known as universalizability. For the seller, assuming that no one would buy the house because of the snakes could cause the seller to avoid revealing the truth. However, the seller will be honest about the condition of the home in all other respects. This would be an exception to the universal maxims that Kant favors. Exceptions are considered moral weaknesses and, therefore, have no substance in Kant's ethical theory. Excluding snakes during the sales process is the weakness. An outcome cannot be consistently determined, but a morally just decision-making process, based on maxims and good will, can help achieve the best outcome. Universal Maxims Serve More Than One Purpose and Benefit All.
