Discrimination is defined as negative attitudes or behaviors between different people. Opponents often say malicious things to each other. However, religious discrimination can lead to violence. Often, religious discrimination can lead to judgment in employment, limited educational opportunities, and restrictive social interactions. Over the centuries, Judaism, Catholicism and Islam have been persecuted by many communities. Religious discrimination has hindered the right and ability of Jews, Catholics, and Muslims to exercise their right to freedom of religion throughout the world. One of the most horrific examples of discrimination resulted from discrimination against Jews and is called the Holocaust. Catholics were denied presidential positions simply because they were Catholic. Islams have been accused of being terrorists even though many are kind and loving people. Religious groups have all experienced numerous horrific incidents in which followers of these religions have been deprived of the right to freely practice their religion. Discrimination against Judaism limits the ability of Jews to practice religious freedom. At one time in the 19th century, Jews were considered a “race that even baptism could not change.” This idea led to the largest massacre ever committed for religious reasons. This is called the massacre, or the Holocaust. It began when anti-Semites (people opposed to the religion of Judaism) “used Jews as a screen to project their own anxieties” (“Anti-Semitism.” 1). The appalling thoughts spread and eventually reached Adolf Hitler, who wrote a book expressing his thoughts about the Jews.
