    In today's society, we can say that the choice to be a man or a woman belongs more to others than to you. A child's appearance, beliefs, and emotions are controlled until he or she completely understands what he or she was “born” to do. In the article Learning to Be Gendered, Penelope Eckert and Sally McConnell-Ginet explain how we are influenced to differentiate ourselves by gender. It starts with our parents, creating our appearances, names, and behaviors and distinguishing them into something male or female. Finally, we pursue this action on our own by observing our peers.
