  • Essay / Community Health Service Project - 1053

I have had the opportunity to participate in the Community Health Service Project at Temple University Hospital over the past few weeks. I discovered through this experience that service, which involves helping or assisting others, changed my perception from helping others to being able to use my skills and knowledge in different ways to achieve better results. health outcomes. According to Mahatma Gandhi, to be the best person you can be, you must focus on finding ways to serve others. By serving others, you learn more about yourself and help others in the process. Therefore, I knew it would be a different experience where you can apply your knowledge in the real world. This is what I look forward to doing in the near future. Doing service projects is a great way to get involved in the local community and through this project our mission was to familiarize ourselves with the goals and objectives of Healthy People 2020, such as access to health. care, health literacy, health promotion and disease prevention. Temple University Hospital operates a program called the Temple Advantage Program, which recruits patients based on their chronic conditions and frequency of admissions to the hospital's emergency department within 6 months. This program provides better access to health services that patients need, such as to resolve any medical insurance coverage issues for prescription drugs. In doing so, they attempt to overcome barriers such as health insurance, lack of availability, high cost, lack of insurance coverage, limited language access, which are the goals of Healthy People 2020 for better access to health care. In addition, each patient is assisted. with a middle...... middle of paper ...... percent of patients on hypertension medications, who do not have their blood pressure under control because they lack regular monitoring. Being a student and having little experience working in retail pharmacies, I saw many people coming into local pharmacies to pick up their prescriptions and check their blood pressure. During my tenure, I have seen people approach the pharmacist and ask what that number means. Interventions made by the pharmacist with a simple conversation about reading his blood pressure went further to learn more about his medication use and follow-up visits with a primary care physician. Therefore, these small interventions with patients will have a huge impact on everyone's health and the role of the pharmacist in this area is incredible. This is an ideal opportunity to involve patients in their own care. I would like to work within these parameters.
